Checking in with new friends...

i'm doing okay and my sons are growing so fast it seems.

No respect
by JimmyPage ini've noticed a couple of times this year in the new study edition of the wt that they really downplay the influence of apostates, saying things like "it's rare that they have much influence" or something to that effect.
i wonder if they really believe that or if they're trying to make themselves feel better.
or maybe it's a tactic to influence the sheep away from the "evil slave".

Yep, there was a sentence in the study WT a couple of weeks back that referred to "in the rare instance that apostasy occurs". They are really keen to push immorality as the #1 cause of people exiting but when you take into account all the faders, apostasy has to be the biggest reason. If you think about it, it's in their interest for the r&f to believe very few leave for that reason. It may start alarm bells ringing. Better to suggest a personal moral weakness than even the possibility of errant doctrine.

How did you find JWD?
by sweet pea inprompted by the thread about jwd v wts i wondered how many of you found jwd via the internet or friends/partners?
what were your first impressions?
i found this site through besty (husband) once my faith had crumbled after reading www.jwfacts.com.

I stumbled over this site a few times before I stopped and read anything here. There was a pointed comment at the district convention a couple of years back warning against sites which "purport to be places to discuss being a witness when actually it's an apostate site". Kudos on the naming of this place, if it was called apostate.com I probably would have run a mile!

An apostate experiment - what would happen?
by slimboyfat inwhat would happen if a copy of crisis of conscience and a short well-written covering letter were sent to every single jehovah's witness worldwide?
i realise this is not practical and probably dubious morally, but that is not the point of my question.
call it a thought experiment if you will.

When I think about myself, I really do think I might have realised the Witnesses don't have the truth much sooner if only I had access to the information I now have.
Definitely true in my case as well. People are discovering the truth for what it is in far greater numbers now because they have access to the information - the internet. I think the vast majority of JW's if given a copy of CoC would not read it though. I think the best way to get people thinking is to force change within the WBTS. Legal action...threaten their money supply. The information if available on the internet once people start questioning the changes.

Some Inspiration
by LouBelle ini'm changing my lifestyle for the better.
i've been a bit of a slacker when it comes to getting fit, but that all changed yesturday.
i've also read some inspiring stuff - we've heard it before but it really is in our grasp.. take responsibility....sometimes the situation you find yourself in may or may not be your fault.

"Trying to get former JW's to work together is like herding cats"
by Mickey mouse inotwo said this on the "suing the tower" thread.. why is this?
i have noticed it also.
i wonder whether some people would not be comfortable with the idea of a world without the watchtower?

Sure there are people in danger there, but there are everywhere.
Interesting thought. I wonder where you draw the line though?

Hi everyone I am a newbie and I need help
by philosopher ini have been coming here for some months y i must admit that i am still in.
but i have serious doubts, i mean, i am 99.9% convinced, the jws are not the true religion, but i still live with my family, and they are jws, and i love them.
my parents have a long time been jws, and it is very hard for me to tell them the truth.

seek2find, there are many examples of people here that show it is possible. Whilst it's true that people have to do it for themselves, I believe you've got a good chance of starting the thinking process if you do it right.

Philosopher, are you living with JW parents? If you are of an age where you can support yourself financially you have the option of leaving home. If you're not I would quietly work towards it, even if it means faking things for a year or two. It may seem like a long time now but it's really not.

Hi Philosopher. Welcome. You are me six months ago. I am still in too. You have a rough ride ahead, sometimes you will feel you will go insane and sometimes you'll want to blurt it all out to your family, probably in the next 3 months when you feel angry. Don't. Let the anger subside, take things one day at a time and if you need to rant do it here. If you really want to help your family you need to take things really slowly. Baby steps. There are a number of great threads with advice here. I will try to hunt some of them out for you.
Mickey.
